We kicked off Erik's one month paternity leave by taking Bailey's first plane ride over to Minneapolis, followed by her first road trip up to Lake Superior. The plane ride was a smashing success (except for the meltdown in the airport in front of all the passengers waiting to board!), but the car ride was a bit painful for all of us. Baby can scream! Kerstin and Mary threw a lovely baby shower while the men and boys went on a boat outing. During the reunion, there were fabulous meals, family Olympics, a trivia game, and lots of time for catching up and meeting new people. Bailey was overwhelmed by the crowd and slept most of the time, but she thoroughly enjoyed playing with her cousins at her grandparents house. Now I must brag on myself a bit...I jumped into cold, cold Lake Superior! People from Tennessee generally don't get in the water when it's below 85 degrees outside (why would we?), but I knew I had to succumb to Erik's sincere begging. He also insisted on dipping Bailey's toe in the water, which, being the one with superior judgment, I heartily argued against. For obvious reasons, that did not go so well.
